Additional features

Additional features of the Transcend TS-ASL3 i815E include: Wake on LAN, Wake on Modem Ring, PS2 connectors, 2 USB ports, 2 serial ports, Power Failure Recovery (with three states), Suspend to RAM, RX/TX connectors for infrared communication, and start-up from the keyboard/mouse, or at a pre-set time. Hardware monitoring of fan speeds, CPU temperature, and of voltages is also provided as standard equipment on this PC99-compliant motherboard. Finally, as mentioned in the intro, an AC"97 sound-card, and a 3D video-card have also been integrated as part of the chipset.

Installation

Installation of Transcend's TS-ASL3 is simple. In fact, there is no real need to monkey around with the board itself, unless you really want to make sure that JP4 is set to Auto, in order to let the board configure itself. In short, all you need to do is install the board in a casing, plug everything in, verify the jumpers, boot-up, and make a quick trip through the BIOS to make any adjustments.

The software bundle

The installation CD contains a patch for the i815E chipset, a utility for flashing the BIOS, Hardware Doctor (for monitoring the hardware under Windows), a digital version of the user's manual, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Transcend has also seen fit to include a small hardware pack with the TS-ASL3, which contains: an 80-pin ATA66 cable, a floppy-drive connector, a serial port cable for the rear panel, and a back panel USB connector.
