Introduction

Asus has renewed its product base once again, with the introduction of the P4S8X -- a motherboard based on the SiS 648 chipset.

The ASUS P4S8X, like many of its competitors, supports Serial ATA, 8X AGP, DDR333 memory, ATA133 drives, and 400MHz/533MHz Pentium 4 processors.

The P4S8X also comes equipped with a number of Asus technologies, including a multi-lingual BIOS, "POST Reporter", "EZ Flash", "Q-Fan", and "EZ Plug", all to make the user experience easier, and more convenient. The new Asus board also comes with the same oodles of accessories that have become common with other motherboards, which only increases the P4S8X's investment value.

So, without further ado, let's toss our new toy into the ring, and see how it fares, shall we?

Configuration

The Asus P4S8X has a few on-board jumpers, but none of them relate directly to its set-up. In other words, any and all adjustments the user may choose to make, are made from within the BIOS.

The "Advanced" menu, for instance, can be used to set the FSB frequency manually, to a value ranging from 100MHz to 200MHz in 1MHz increments, or else allow the frequency to be determined automatically by the system.

The P4S8X's BIOS also allows users to set the memory bus to operate at 100/133/166 or 200MHz, set the Vcore voltage to between 1.5 and 1.8 Volts, set the DDR voltage to between 2.5 and 2.7 Volts, and the AGP voltage to between 1.5 and 1.7 Volts.

Finally, the BIOS also includes all the usual assortments of memory timing options that are expected by Overclockers.
