Intel 810 socket 370 motherboard

Wednesday, August 04, 1999

Introduction

Based on the Intel 810 AGPset, the new Gigabyte GA-6WMM7 socket 370 motherboard uses a PV1.1 onboard 2D/3D graphic card (4Mb display cache) as well as an onboard optional Yamaha 744 PCI sound card. Contrarily to many other i810 boards, the GA-6WMM7 has 1 ISA expansion slot. A DFP (Digital Flat Panel) connector is also available as an option on this motherboard. Some other very interesting features such as Auto Speed Down and CPU temperature overheating and fan failures monitoring are also supported on this motherboard. But, one of the most interesting feature of this motherboard is the DUAL BIOS feature as recently developed for the slot 1 GA-BX2000 motherboard. With this feature, you no longer have to be afraid to lost your BIOS as it can always be restored from the backup BIOS. Let's have a detailed look on this new product from Gigabyte in the suite of this article.

Features

As previously mentioned, the GA-6WMM7 possesses an onboard Yamaha 744 PCI (optional) sound card as well as a 2D/3D graphic card with 4Mb of 3D display cache memory.

The expansions possibilities of the GA-6WMM7 are including: 3 PCI slots, 1 ISA slot, one AMR (audio/modem riser interface) slot, 2 DIMM memory sockets supporting up to 512Mb of memory, two Ultra DMA 66/33 Bus Master IDE channels, one gameport as well as optional DFP and TV-out connectors.

The clock frequency of the GA-6WMM7 can be selected within a range extending from 66Mhz to 150Mhz including: 66/70/75/83/90/95/100/105/115/120/124/133/140 and 150Mhz.

The clock multiplier goes from 3X up to 9.5X in 0.5X increments.

Other features found on the GA-6WMM7 motherboard are: Dual BIOS technology, Keyboard Power On, Mouse Power On, PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors, Wake-On-LAN, Wake-On modem ring, RTC (alarm), USB connectors, IrDA RX/TX header (optional), suspend to RAM, UDMA/33/66, ACPI/APM suspend/wake-on mode and hardware monitoring.

Below is an excellent photography of this motherboard allowing a good overview of its components layout.

Installation

The GA-6WMM7 installation requires the JP1 jumpers positioning to set the master clock frequency at Auto, 66Mhz or 100Mhz and a set of Dip switches is allowing to change the clock frequency if you wish to apply some Overclocking to your processor.

The Software Bundle

Programs and utilities included are: Intel LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM), System information (SIV) utility, i810 patch utility for Windows 95/98, Yamaha 744 PCI sound driver (optional), Intel VGA driver, Trend Micro(R) PC-cillin 98 Anti-Virus scanning utility, a setup help read-me file and the Adobe Acrobat Reader with the CD version of the users manual.
