BIOS Functionalities
System Startup
One finds several functionalities on Abit BH7 among which a certain number can be used for the
starting of the computer. WakeOn modem boxing ring, WakeOn LAN, Power One PS/2 keyboard or mouse
as well as the automatic mode make it possible to start the computer remotely or at a preprogrammed
time in the case of the automatic timer mode. Note that some of these functionalities require a
power supply unit which can provide 720 mAmp. at 5 volts.
The 'Suspend to Ram' is also available on that motherboard.
System State
As I mentioned in the technical details, in BIOS we find all the measures of the different
voltages and of the different speeds of the fans. Everything is there but in BIOS. So to access
them, one has to enter BIOS, which is not always desirable.
Still more important is the activation of the different alarms that Abit BH7 offers. Two of them
are quite interesting from a security point of view that is:
- “System Power off” when the CPU fan is out of order or not running
- “System Power off” when the CPU temperature goes beyond a predetermined value
The CPU fan can be controlled by a function called “Smart Fan Speed Control”. When activated, it
allows the control of the speed of the fan in relation with the CPU temperature. As a rule, this
function optimally increases or decreases the speed of the fan.
Functions for Experts
Very good overclocking functions are integrated into BIOS to act on the FSB of the processor like
on the adjustment of the Vcore tensions, DDR and AGP Voltages and on the FSB(AGP/PCI) ratio.
These adjustments are:
The ajustement of the system clock:
- FSB Frequency varying from 100 MHz to 250 MHz in 1-Hz steps.
- Internal multiplier varying from 8 to 32.
BUS PCI Frequency :
- ExtClock/3
- ExtClock/4
- ExtClock/5
- ExtClock/6
- Fixed at 44 MHz
- Fixed at 37 MHz
- Fixed at 33 MHz
Memory/CPU ratio that offer the following possibilities :
- 1:1 and 3:4 into 400MHz FSB
- 1:1 and 4:5 into 533MHz FSB
So Enabling us the use of DDR 200/266/333 memory bar.
System voltage adjustments that bear:
- Vcore voltage varying from +5% to +30% of the Vcore base
- AGP Bus Voltage varying from 1.5 to 1.6 volts
- Memory voltage varying from 2.55 to 3.05 volts
