Introduction

It has been with after over 36b hours with no sleep that I finally arrived at the 2002 Las Vegas Comdex.

One of the reason is that i had to leave the house much sooner because a huge snow storm hit my area. As a matter of fact, we received over 15 inches of snow in less than 24 hours.

Thus, I had to drive in the snow storm all along the 400 miles separating me from the aiport and this is why I left the house sooner because I knew rthat it would take a lot more time than usual.

The next day, I arrived at Las Vegas around noon but before I head to the COmdex I had to go to my hotel and i also had to register to the Comdex as a media analyst in order to be allowed to take pictures.

To sdum iot all, I finally steppen in the convention center Monday around 3:00pm. Thus, I had very little time to visit the exhibitors Monday.

Tuesday was a lot better but I just couldn't publish my articles because of some technical problems with my portable.

Thus, here I am today with my resume of the Comdex first two days.

The exhibitors

Soltek

The first manufacturer that I saw was Soltek who presented its new Pentium 4 mainboards to me. Soltek's new P 4 mobos are supporting Dual channel DDR memory with a bandwith of 4.2Gb which is as much as Direct Rambus but at a much lower cost.

Available in two flavors, these new mainboards are named SL-85FRV et SL-85FR and if they hit the market, they will respectively use the VIA P4X600 chipset and Intel E7205 chipset code mane Granite Bay.

These were experimental boards that were fully operational but since the Granite Bay is still in late added to the fact that there are some problems with the availability of the VIA chipset, it has not been determined yet when these boards will be mass produced or if they ever will be.

Whatever the case will be, both of these new boards were supporting AGP 8X, Serial ATA and will be available with an onboard RAID controller as an option.

The last picture is about the new SL-K8AV mobo for AMD Athlon processors and is based on the nForce 2 chipset from nVidia. Like the two preceding boards, the SL-K8AV is supporting AGP 8X, seial ATA and will be available with an onboard RAID controller as an option.
