Introduction

There is no end to AOpen's product line it seems, and the latest addition to roll out of the factory is EHW-4048u -- a USB 2.0 portable CD burner.

A CD burner is always a welcome addition to a computer system, but a portable CD burner is even better; what can be better than being able to transport your CD-RW from place to place, to share with friends and family? The AOpen EHW-4048u is not only portable but it is also capable of burning CDs at 40X, writing CD-RWs at 12X, and reading at 48x, making it a truly high-performance device.

One of its more compelling features though, is that it can be connected using either a USB 1.1 or 2.0 port. It comes with an attractive blue top and front plate, and its very own power-supply, which makes the entire unit very portable, and highly versatile.

And, of course, like previous CD-RW devices offered by AOpen, the EHW-4048u comes with "Just Link" and "Just Speed" technologies, which make the burning experience that much easier.

Note that the EHW-4048u's data buffer is 2MB in size, much like that of the CRW4048.

Before we head in to the analysis, it should also be noted that the EHW-4048u is offered in both American, and European renditions.
